クライストチャーチ大聖堂 JDU(Japanese Downunder) is a Japanese radio show in Christchrch, New Zealand.
It's not a serious programme, but a funny and ceerful one with information and music.
It has been broadcast since September 2002.
At that time, there were no Japnaese radio shows in South Island, Naoko and Yuji made the first one, JDU.
We wanted to make a show that was inviting and humourous for our listeners.

フラワーフェスティバル・フラワーファッションショー Hi, I'm Naoko. Yes it's me. I'm the person who makes this radio show and designed this website.
I wanted to be a Radio DJ ever since I was 16.
Therefore, I made up my mind to do my Mass Communications degree in Chiba, Japan.
When I finished my third year of University, I said to myself,
"If I just stayed where I am right now, I probably can't be a Radio DJ in the future as I wanted."
So, I decided to go to New Zealand to gain some life experience in another culture, as well as to improve my English.
In the beginning, Japanese Downunder was only a 30-minute pre- recorded programme, which reported on events, Japanese and New Zealand news.
I had a segment in which I read notices as if I were singing a rap or opera song.
Funny experiences in New Zealand were a main topic.
We had different interview themes each week.
Yuji and I wanted to make it longer, so we asked for more sponsors.
Luckily we got enough sponsors to make it happen.
In December 2002, Japanese Downunder became a 60-minute live show that was broadcast until March 2003.
In this 60-minute show, we coverd themes such as learning English with a playful heart, basic but practical Korean, unusual spots in Christchurch, cultural differences, etc... Of couse, news, music and funny interviews were not forgotten.
We even included a soap opera, "Himeko's Loving School." All SFX were made by human voice, so we needed lots of people to get involved. Many listeners joined us and were on air.
More and more people started listening to our programme, but I had to go back to Japan to finish my last year of study. Sadly, I returned to Japan.
From May 2003 to December 2004, Japanese Downunder became a 15-minute pre-recorded programme from Japan.
I recorded broadcasts onto PC in Japan, then sent them through the Internet to PLAINS FM.
They edited them and put the programme on air every week. It was more about Japan.
I tried to make people feel like they were actually in Japan.
I also interviewed people who were from other cultures but who lived in Japan.
I asked them to share their funny or embarrassing experiences while they were in Japan.
In January 2005, I returned to New Zealand.
JDU became a 30-minute live show.
"Interviews at the Art centre" was the main theme at that time.
I did several short "on-the-street" interviews. We also included a new radio drama segment called "Galaxy Madness." It was a funny superhero story in Christchurch.
3 months later - in April 2005, I returned to Japan and our show became a 15-minute pre-recorded show that you can hear every Tuesday night, starting at 8:00pm.
We decided we would broadcast fortnightly this time because making a radio show from Japan is much harder for staff than making one in NZ.
But we started three new segments. "How to Tramp (trek) for Beginners," "Amusing trip stories in NZ" and "Advice About Economizing in Christchurch."
So, JDU continues from Japan right now. But I sometimes go back to NZ to record interviews.
And I hope to continue as long as possible.
